António Jorge Guiomar is a researcher with teaching duties at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal. He holds a BSc degree in Biochemistry (University of Coimbra, Portugal; 1987), a MSc degree in the area of enzyme amperometric biosensors (University of Leeds, UK; 1989) and a PhD degree with work on the application of self-assembled monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett films to conformational and activity studies with immobilized enzymes (University of Leeds, UK; 1997). His main research interests lie in the Biomaterials area and have focused in the areas of enzyme and antibody immobilization onto polymer and metal surfaces, enzyme-based biosensors, applications of self-assembled monolayers of alkanethiols on gold, application of inorganic nanoparticles for cell labelling and sorting, blood-materials interactions, and controlled drug release systems for applications in ophthalmology and wound healing. He was a member of the organizing committee of the 1st FEBS Advanced Lecture Course on Oncometabolism.
