Vilma A. Sardão 
was born in Estarreja, Portugal, in 1979, graduated in Biochemistry by the University of Coimbra in 2002 and get her PhD. in Cell Biology by the same University in 2008. Currently, Vilma Sardão in an Assistant Investigator at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), University of Coimbra, from FCT Investigator Program. Being an expert in mitochondrial physiology, her current scientific interest focuses on mitochondrial physiology alterations during oestrogen withdrawal after menopause and how those alterations could be involved in the development of menopause-associated pathologies. 
Vilma Sardão is an author/co-author of 35 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (5 first author, 6 last author, >850 citations, h-index 18, by Scopus) 2 papers in national peer-reviewed journal, 6 book chapters, 30 abstracts in conference proceedings, 11 invited oral communications, 29 selected oral communications, 76 poster presentation in scientific meetings and 6 prizes/awards. 
Since 2014, she is one of the top Portuguese specialists in the Seahorse XF96 platform, having trained about 12 individuals from external institutions. Due to her expertise, she participated in six different research projects including from groups in Poland, Italy, and Czech Republic, from which 4 are already published or under revision. From 2015-2016, she was the head of MitoXT services, which performed toxicological assays based on mitochondrial function to third parties, having contributed to implement the certification ISO9001 to that CNC core unit. During her tenure, she managed to perform services for clients in Portugal, U.S.A., Poland, and Czech Republic.
